Pre-Endemic day 221: Covid-19 new daily case reports drop to 2,521

PUTRAJAYA, 8 Nov 2022:

After poking above the 4,000 mark over the weekend, Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports during the latest 24 hours under review dropped to 2,521 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,929,972 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (1,756) or fully vaccinated (505). Unvaccinated persons numbered 249, with 11 partially vaccinated.

Selangor (879) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (461), Negeri Sembilan (179), Sabah (178), Penang (132), Kelantan (131), Kedah (118) and Melaka (100), while double digits were charted in Perak (88), Pahang (77), Johor (69), Terengganu (57) and Sarawak (43). Single digit new cases were recorded in Perlis (5) and Putrajaya (4) while Labuan had none.

The 4,695 discharges far outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,858,943 (98.6%) while active cases plunged 2,182 to 34,534 – with 32,766 (94.9%) in home quarantine, 1,695 (4.9%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units rose to 73 Covid-19 patients, with 47 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added eight fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,495 – with another two brought-in-dead cases to raise this subtotal to 7,767 casualties. The deaths involved five boosted persons and three fully vaccinated.
