Pre-Endemic day 218: Covid-19 new case reports at 4,360

PUTRAJAYA, 5 Nov 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports stayed above the 4,000 mark as the latest 24 hours under review saw 4,360 persons recording positive tests – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,918,917 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (3,137) or fully vaccinated (915). Unvaccinated persons numbered 292, with 16 partially vaccinated.

Selangor (1,797) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (616), Perak (417), Negeri Sembilan (274), Sabah (254), Penang (252), Melaka (172), Kedah (123) and Putrajaya (108), while double digits were charted in Kelantan (92), Pahang (83), Sarawak (79), Johor (53) and Terengganu (30). Single digit new cases were recorded in Labuan (5) and Perlis (5).

The 3,429 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,846,897 (98.5%) while active cases rose 930 to 35,539 – with 33,874 (95.3%) in home quarantine, 1,592 (4.5%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units rose to 73 Covid-19 patients, with 53 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added fatality to raise the death toll to 36,481 – with no brought-in-dead case keeping this subtotal at 7,763 casualties. The deaths involved a fully vaccinated person.
