PUTRAJAYA, 3 Nov 2022:
Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports surged to almost 4,000 as the latest 24 hours under review saw 3,969 persons recording positive tests – with two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,909,846 infections.
Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (2,920) or fully vaccinated (749). Unvaccinated persons numbered 287, with 13 partially vaccinated.
Kuala Lumpur (1,180) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Selangor (1,145), Perak (314), Sabah (248), Negeri Sembilan (245), Penang (157), Kedah (120), Kelantan (106) and Melaka (104), while double digits were charted in Sarawak (81), Pahang (79), Johor (73), Putrajaya (58) and Terengganu (49). Single digit new cases were recorded in Labuan (7) and Perlis (3).
The 2,696 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,840,348 (98.6%) while active cases rose 1,271 to 33,018 – with 31,458 (95.3%) in home quarantine, 1,497 (4.5%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).
Numbers at intensive care units rose to 63 Covid-19 patients, with 47 needing breathing aids.
The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added two more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,480 – with no brought-in-dead case keeping this subtotal at 7,763 casualties. The deaths involved two fully vaccinated persons.
