Pre-Endemic day 213: Covid-19 new daily case reports at 3,129

PUTRAJAYA, 31 Oct 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports stayed above the 3,000 mark for the third straight day as the latest 24 hours under review saw 3,129 persons recording positive tests – with six imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,900,051 infections.

Worryingly, most of the new infections are among those who had already received boosted vaccinations (2,411) or fully vaccinated (518). Unvaccinated persons numbered 192, with eight partially vaccinated.

Selangor (1,389) reported the highest number of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (660), Perak (222), Penang (173), Sabah (156) and Negeri Sembilan (135), while double digits were charted in Kedah (69), Melaka (69), Johor (46), Kelantan (46), Pahang (44), Sarawak (44), Putrajaya (38) and Terengganu (28). Single digit new cases were recorded in Perlis (7) and Labuan (3).

The 2,464 discharges were outpaced by new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,832,220 (98.6%) while active cases rose 663 to 31,365 – with 29,855 (95.2%) in home quarantine, 1,444 (4.6%) hospitalised and none at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC).

Numbers at intensive care units further rose to 66 Covid-19 patients, with 39 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added two more fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,466 – with no brought-in-dead cases for the second straight day to keep the subtotal at 7,761 casualties. The deaths involved one boosted person and one fully vaccinated.
