Pre-Endemic day 172: Covid-19 new daily reports dip to 1,307

PUTRAJAYA, 20 Sept 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports over the latest 24 hours under review dipped to 1,307 persons recording positive tests – with four imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,820,197 infections.

Selangor (312) reported the highest numbers of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (200), Sabah (144), Negeri Sembilan (123) and Perak (119), while double digits were charted in Kedah (78), Kelantan (58), Johor (51), Penang (50), Sarawak (50), Melaka (37), Terengganu (34), Pahang (27) and Putrajaya (17). Only Perlis (5) and Labuan (2) reported in the single digits.

The 1,830 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,758,797 (98.7%) while active cases fell 528 to 25,083 – with 23,866 (95.1%) in home quarantine, just two at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) and 1,160 (4.6%) hospitalised.

Numbers at intensive care units dipped to 55 Covid-19 patients, with 36 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added five more confirmed fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,317, with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,719 casualties. The backlog of around a week for Covid-19 death confirmations is due to testing priority given to healing the living.

Active clusters dipped to 17 out of 7,078 identified todate with a new Kedah high-risk group (Dah Jalan Mendidih Kuala Muda) offset by the end of two education clusters in Kuala Lumpur (Jalan Pantai Endah 2 Lembah Pantai and Taman Bukit Pantai 3 Lembah Pantai).

The overall tally stands at five education clusters, 10 high-risk groups and two workplace clusters – in Kuala Lumpur (Persiaran Bukit Kiara 3 Kepong), Perak (Jalan Mahawangsa Kinta).

The education clusters are in:

  • Perak (Jalan Kemas Seri Iskandar Perak Tengah, Jalan Slim 2 Muallim and Kota Gopeng 4 Kampar) and
  • Selangor (Jalan Dato Tabal Hulu Selangor and Pekan Dengkil Sepang).

The other high-risk groups are in:
