Pre-Endemic day 171: Covid-19 new daily case reports at 1,639

PUTRAJAYA, 19 Sept 2022:

Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports over the latest 24 hours under review was steady as 1,639 persons recorded positive tests – with three imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,818,890 infections.

Selangor (659) reported the highest numbers of new cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (295), Sabah (137) and Perak (108), while double digits were charted in Negeri Sembilan (70), Sarawak (60), Penang (57), Kedah (55), Johor (48), Melaka (46), Kelantan (36), Pahang (32), Putrajaya (19) and Terengganu (13). Only Labuan (3) and Perlis (1) reported in the single digits.

The 2,056 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,756,967 (98.7%) while active cases fell 421 to 25,611 – with 24,404 (95.3%) in home quarantine, just four at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) and 1,143 (4.5%) hospitalised.

Numbers at intensive care units stayed steady at 60 Covid-19 patients, with 39 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added four more confirmed fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,312, with another brought-in-dead case raising this subtotal to 7,718 casualties. The backlog of around a week for Covid-19 death confirmations is due to testing priority given to healing the living.
