Pre-Endemic day 129: Covid-19 new daily cases dip to 2,728

PUTRAJAYA, 8 Aug 2022:

Continued yo-yoing of Malaysia’s Covid-19 new daily case reports saw a dip to 2,728 persons recording positive tests in the latest 24 hours under review – including two imported cases – to raise the nation’s tally to 4,708,552 infections.

The Klang Valley is still reporting the most new cases with Selangor (749) ahead of Kuala Lumpur (575), Negeri Sembilan (146) and Putrajaya (30).

High numbers were also charted in Sabah (265), Perak (245), Penang (201), Johor (116), Kedah (101) and Melaka (101) while double digits were recorded in Sarawak (55), Pahang (52), Kelantan (44) and Terengganu (33). Single digits were recorded in Perlis (9) and Labuan (6).

The 3,856 discharges outpaced new cases as total recoveries rose to 4,626,756 (98.2%) while active cases fell 1,134 to 45,770 – with 44,159 (96.5%) in home quarantine, just 30 at Low-Risk Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres (PKRC) and 1,529 (3.3%) hospitalised.

Numbers at intensive care units were steady at 52 Covid-19 patients, with 36 needing breathing aids.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added six more confirmed fatalities to raise the death toll to 36,026, with no brought-in-dead cases keeping this subtotal at 7,655 casualties. The backlog of around a week for Covid-19 death confirmations is due to testing priority given to healing the living.

Active clusters stood at 23 out of 7,047 identified todate with nine education clusters, 11 high-risk groups plus a detention centre in Perlis (DTI Persiaran Wawasan 2 Kangar) and two workplace clusters in Selangor (Industri Jalan Sungai 2 Hulu Langat and Tapak Bina Persiaran Mahkota 2 Kuala Langat).

The high-risk groups are in Kuala Lumpur (Jalan Jaya 3 Cheras), Negeri Sembilan (Bukit Rasah 2 Seremban), Penang (Jalan Panchor Jelutong, Jalan Pantai Jerejak, Lorong Batu Lanchang and Lorong Impian Enam 2 Perai), Perak (Jalan Dato Lau Pak Khuan Kinta, Jalan Matahari Ipoh) and Selangor (Jalan Padang Golf 4 Hulu Selangor, Jalan SS 19/3 Petaling and Lorong Haji Mughni 2 Klang).
