Post-MCO day 91: Covid-19 daily recoveries again outpaced by 2,888 new cases

PUTRAJAYA, 9 Jan 2022:

For the second straight day, daily Covid-19 recoveries were outpaced as 2,888 persons tested positive over the past 24 hours to raise Malaysia’s tally to 2,786,219 infections.

Still chalking up most new cases is Selangor (770), followed by Johor (326), Kuala Lumpur (277), Kedah (223), Sabah (198), Kelantan (195), Penang (186), Negeri Sembilan (158), Pahang (148), Melaka (139), Perak (121), Terengganu (90), Sarawak (22), Labuan (18), Putrajaya (14) and Perlis (8).

Imported cases remain high at 323, including 36 foreigners, while local transmissions involved 2,480 Malaysians (96.7%) and 85 non-citizens. Of this total, 36 persons (1.2%) needed to be hospitalised.

Outpaced by new cases, the 2,714 discharges brought total recoveries to 2,714,614 (97.4%) as active cases rose 79 to 39,776 – with 32,866 (82.6%) in home quarantine, 3,230 (8.1%) at Low Risk Covid-19 Quarantine And Treatment Centres and 3,427 (8.6%) hospitalised.

Numbers dropped at intensive care units with 206 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus 42 more suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 73 confirmed Covid-19 cases (plus another 44 suspected).

The sad statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 11 more confirmed fatalities to bring the death toll to 31,655 – inclusive of another two brought-in-dead cases to raise this subtotal to 6,386 casualties. There is a backlog of around 10 days for Covid-19 death confirmations due to testing priority given to healing the living.

Active clusters have dropped to 172 out of 6,159 identified todate as another new community cluster was added today – Anggerik Chuwau Hulu Perak.
