PUTRAJAYA, 2 Dec 2021:
The stubborn streak of daily Covid-19 infections marked another uptick as 5,806 more persons tested positive over the past 24 hours to raise Malaysia’s tally to 2,644,027 infections.
Selangor saw an increase to 1,726 new cases, followed by Kelantan (640), Johor (635), Sabah (427), Kuala Lumpur (385), Pahang (354), Kedah (332), Penang (262), Melaka (249), Perak (228), Terengganu (191), Negeri Sembilan (181), Sarawak (91), Putrajaya (53), Perlis (47) and Labuan (5).
There were six Malaysians among the 11 imported cases, local transmissions involved 5,542 citizens (95.6%) and 253 foreigners. Of this total, 103 persons (1.8%) had to be hospitalised.
The 7,246 discharges brought total recoveries to 2,551,253 (96.5%) as active cases further reduced by 1,413 to 63,740 – with 52,066 (81.7%) in home quarantine, 6,156 (9.7%) Low-Risk Covid-19 Treatment and Quarantine Centres and 5,018 (7.9%) hospitalised.
There was an uptick at intensive care units with 368 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus another 143 suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 145 confirmed Covid-19 cases (plus 121 more suspected).
The sad statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added another 49 confirmed fatalities to bring the death toll to 30,474 – inclusive of 12 more brought-in-dead cases to raise this subtotal to 6165 casualties. The backlog of Covid-19 deaths is due to testing priority given to healing the living.
The addition of six more new clusters saw the active number steady at 227 among 5,959 identified todate.
In its latest daily update, the Health Ministry also said another 515 Covid-19 delta variant (B.1.617.2) cases between Nov 25 and today. Further, due to the spread of the new omicron variant (B.1.1.259), the ministry has determined that incoming international arrivals from more affected nations are allowed to land only at KL International Airport and undergo 14-day quarantine.
