Post-MCO day 52: New Covid-19 daily cases uptick to 5,439

PUTRAJAYA, 1 Dec 2021:

Continuing to waver around the 5,000 Covid-19 daily infections mark, another 5,439 persons tested positive over the past 24 hours to bring Malaysia’s tally to 2,638,221 cases.

Still worst hit is Selangor with 1,582 new cases, followed by Kelantan (639), Johor (488), Sabah (467), Kedah (366), Kuala Lumpur (326), Pahang (326), Penang (292), Terengganu (235), Perak (205), Negeri Sembilan (180), Melaka (124), Sarawak (121), Perlis (48), Putrajaya (21) and Labuan (19).

There were 15 Malaysians among the 21 imported cases, local transmissions involved 5,229 citizens (96.5%) and 189 foreigners. Of this total, 105 persons (1.9%) had to be hospitalised.

The 6,803 discharges brought total recoveries to 2,544,007 (96.4%) as active cases fell by 344 to 65,153 – with 2,954 (81.3%) in home quarantine, 6,539 (10%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres and 5,151 (7.9%) hospitalised.

Numbers have dipped at intensive care units to 400 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus 100 more suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 161 confirmed Covid-19 cases (plus another 97 suspected).

The sad statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 55 more confirmed fatalities to bring the death toll to 30,425 – inclusive of another eight brought-in-dead cases to raise this subtotal to 6,153 casualties. A backlog remains on Covid-19 confirmation due to testing priority focused on healing the living.

The identification of another six new clusters today brings the active number to 226 out of the 5,953 total so far.
