PUTRAJAYA, 23 Nov 2021:

Recoveries lagged new Covid-19 cases again as 5,594 more persons tested positive over the past 24 hours to raise Malaysia’s tally to 2,597,080 infections.

Selangor maintained the lead in the states tally with 1,397 new cases, followed by Kelantan (640), Johor (569), Sabah (526), Kedah (471), Kuala Lumpur (419), Pahang (278), Penang (262), Sarawak (239), Perak (226), Terengganu (207), Negeri Sembilan (139), Melaka (112), Putrajaya (71), Perlis (31) and Labuan (7).

There were 15 Malaysians among the 25 imported cases, local transmissions involved 5,297 citizens (95.1%) and 273 foreigners. Of this total, 85 persons (1.5%) had to be hospitalised.

Outpaced by new cases, the 4,908 discharges brought total recoveries to 2,498,345 (96.2%) as active cases fell by 806 to 67,986 – with 54,359 (80%) in home quarantine, 7,488 (11%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres and 5,590 (8.2%) hospitalised.

Numbers remain high at intensive care units with 424 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus another 108 suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 168 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus 98 more suspected).

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 63 more confirmed fatalities to raise the death toll to 30,063 – inclusive of another 13 brought-in-dead cases to bring this subtotal to 6,077 casualties. There is a backlog in the confirmation of Covid-19 deaths as testing focus is on healing the living.

Although another 12 new clusters were identified today, the active number has further shrunk to 231 out of 5,898 identified todate.
