Post-MCO day 42: Recoveries outpace 4,854 new Covid-19 cases again

PUTRAJAYA, 21 Nov 2021:

There was a sharp drop of people testing positive for Covid-19, with 4,854 new cases recorded over the past 24 hours to bring Malaysia’s tally to 2,586,601 infections.

Selangor continued to lead the state tally with 1,365 new cases, followed by Johor (494), Kelantan (486), Sabah (437), Kedah (275), Penang (271), Pahang (265), Sarawak (245), Kuala Lumpur (235), Terengganu (208), Negeri Sembilan (197), Perak (177), Melaka (142), Putrajaya (31), Labuan 914) and Perlis (12).

There were eight Malaysians among the 12 imported cases, local transmissions involved 4,643 citizens (95.9%) and 199 foreigners. Of this total, 86 persons (1.8%) had to be hospitalised.

The 5,525 discharges raised total recoveries to 2,487,809 (96.2%) as active cases rose 848 to 69,485 – with 55,346 (79.7%) in home quarantine, 8,004 (11.5%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres and 5,606 (8.1%) hospitalised.

Numbers remain high at intensive care units with 420 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus 121 more suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 175 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus another 92 suspected).

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added 41 more confirmed fatalities to raise the death toll to 29,978 – inclusive of another six brought-in-dead cases to bring this subtotal to 6,058 casualties. There is a backlog in confirming Covid-19 deaths due to testing priority given to healing the living.

While three more new clusters were identified today, the active number has dipped to 235 out of 5,881 identified todate.
