PUTRAJAYA, 20 Nov 2021:

For the fourth straight day, recoveries were outpaced by new Covid-19 infections as another 5,859 persons tested positive over the past 24 hours to raise Malaysia’s tally to 2,581,747 cases.

Leading the state tally again is Selangor with 1,528 new positives, followed by Kelantan (614), Sabah (545), Johor (499), Penang (367), Kedah (364), Pahang (362), Kuala Lumpur (319), Sarawak (255), Perak (237), Terengganu (225), Negeri Sembilan (223), Malaka (192), Putrajaya (91), Labuan (19) and Perlis (19).

There were 13 Malaysians among the 19 imported cases, local transmissions were made up of 5,629 citizens (96.4%) and 211 foreigners. Of this total, 102 persons (1.7%) had to be hospitalised.

Lagging new infections, the 4,970 discharges brought total recoveries to 2,482,284 (96.1%) while active cases rose by 1,279 to 68,637 – with 54,174 (78.9%) in home quarantine, 8,268 (12%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres and 5,653 (8.2%) hospitalised.

Numbers remain high at intensive care units with 420 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus 109 more suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 169 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus another 92 suspected).

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added another 45 confirmed fatalities to raise the death toll to 29,937 – inclusive of seven more brought-in-dead cases to bring this subtotal to 6,052 casualties. There is a backlog of death confirmations due to testing priority given to healing the living.

Just one new cluster identified today leaves 240 remaining active out of 5,878 identified todate.
