Post-MCO day 40: New Covid-19 cases continue outpacing recoveries

PUTRAJAYA, 19 Nov 2021:

For the third day in a row, recoveries have been outpaced by new Covid-19 infections as 6,355 more persons tested positive over the past 24 hours to bring Malaysia’s tally to 2,575,888 cases.

Worst hit is Selangor with 1,737 infections, followed by Kelantan (735), Sabah (543), Johor (497), Kedah (407), Pahang (358), Penang (356), Kuala Lumpur (324), Sarawak (292), Perak (284), Terengganu (258), Melaka (233), Negeri Sembilan (214), Putrajaya (82), Labuan (19) and Perlis (16).

There were 20 Malaysians among the 31 imported cases, local transmissions involved 6,112 citizens (96.6%) and 212 foreigners. Of this total, 115 (1.8%) had to be hospitalised.

Outpaced by new cases, the 5,031 discharges brought total recoveries to 2,477,314 (96.2%) as active cases rose 565 to 67,358 – with 52,820 (78.4%) in home quarantine, 8,181 (12.1%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres and 5,816 (8.6%) hospitalised.

The numbers are creeping up at intensive care units with 436 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus 106 more suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 173 confirmed patients (plus another 95 suspected).

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 saw another 55 confirmed fatalities to bring the death toll to 29,892 – inclusive of nine more brought-in-dead cases to raise this subtotal to 6,045 casualties.

The number of new daily clusters is also on the rise with 10 more identified today to keep the active number at 246 out of 5,877 identified todate.
