Post-MCO day 38: Recoveries lagging new Covid-19 cases again

PUTRAJAYA, 17 Nov 2021:

Daily Covid-19 recoveries have again lagged new infections as another 6,288 tested positive over the past 24 hours to raise Malaysia’s tally to 2,563,153 cases.

Selangor continues to lead the state tally with 1,615 new cases, followed by Kelantan (804), Sabah (599), Johor (538), Kedah (425), Kuala Lumpur (403), Pahang (377), Sarawak (300), Terengganu (299), Negeri Sembilan (244), Penang (221), Melaka (137), Labuan (28), Putrajaya (28) and Perlis (27).

There were 15 Malaysians among the 22 imported cases while local transmissions involved 6,050 citizens (96.6%) and 216 foreigners. Of this total, 125 persons (2%) needed hospitalisation.

Outpaced by new infections the 4,743  discharges brought total recoveries to 2,466,523 (96.2%) while active cases fell by 640 to 65,316 – with 50,765 (77.7%) in home quarantine, 8,217 (12.6%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Treatment Centres and 5,789 (8.9%) hospitalised.

The numbers stayed steady at intensive care units with 440 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus another 96 suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 172 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus 79 more suspected).

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 added another 40 confirmed fatalities to bring the death toll to 29,769 – inclusive of seven more brought-in-dead cases to raise this subtotal to 6,024 casualties. Testing backlog on deaths is about a month due to priority given to healing the living.

Although eight more new clusters were identified today, the number of those active had dipped to 247 out of 5,858  identified todate.
