Post-MCO day 14: New Covid-19 daily cases at 5,666 & 3 more clusters

PUTRAJAYA, 24 Oct 2021:

Daily additions of Covid-19 infections is staying steady with 5,666 more people testing positive over the past 24 hours to bring Malaysia’s tally to 2,431,716 cases.

Selangor remains the only state with over 1,000 new cases with 1,078 recorded, followed by Sarawak (754), Johor (566), Sabah (502), Kelantan (469), Kedah (421), Perak (349), Penang (279), Terengganu (277), Melaka (262), Pahang (252), Negeri Sembilan (218) and Kuala Lumpur (162). Fewest new cases were reported in Labuan (7), Putrajaya (30) and Perlis (40).

There were 14 Malaysians among the 20 imported cases, local transmissions were made up of 5,449 citizens (96.5%) and 197 foreigners. Of this total, 107 persons (1.9%) had to be hospitalised, according to the Health Ministry’s daily Covid-19 report.

The 6,978  discharges brought total recoveries to 2,327,369 (95.7%) as active cases fell by 3,392 to 77,305 – with 59,687 (77.2%) in home quarantine, 10,807 (14%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres and 6,191 (8%) hospitalised.

Reductions were seen in numbers at intensive care units with 522 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus another suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 222 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus another 77 suspected).

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 saw 42 more fatalities to bring the death toll to 28,354 – with another 10 brought-in-dead cases raising this subtotal to 5,728.

Johor had two of the three new clusters identified today with a high-risk group (Jalan Sutera Kuning JB) and a workplace cluster (Ladang Jalan Kluang) while Selangor had a community cluster (Jalan Lama Tebuk Marso Sabaj Bernam).

The number of active clusters continued the sharp fall to 539 out of 5,722 identified todate.
