This uptrend is already being seen with the number of hospitalisations rising in the Klang Valley and Sarawak, noted Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

Selangor charted more than 1,000 new Covid-19 cases for a second day running with 1,027 persons testing positive, followed by Sarawak (725), Sabah (651), Johor (595), Kelantan (540), Terengganu (485), Perak (384), Penang (381), Kuala Lumpur (343), Kedah (319), Pahang (294), Melaka (235) and Negeri Sembilan (167). There were 19 Malaysians among the 42 imported cases, local transmissions involved 5,860 citizens (95%) and 308 foreigners. Of this total, 116 persons (1.9%) needed hospitalisation.

The 7,562 discharges brought total recoveries to 2,303,583 (95.4%), active cases have further reduced by 3,961 to 83,223 – with 64,125 (77.1%) in home quarantine, 11,966 (14.4%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres and 6,466 (7.8%) hospitalised.

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 has added another confirmed 76 fatalities, raising the death toll to 28,138 – inclusive of another 14 brought-in-dead cases to bring this subtotal to 5,680. There is a backlog of around a month for confirmation of deaths as lab testing is more focused on healing the living.
