Post-MCO day 10: New Covid-19 daily cases at 5,516, Selangor has over 1,000

PUTRAJAYA, 20 Oct 2021:

The number of persons testing positive for Covid-19 has remained steady for the past three days with 5,516 more cases recorded over the past 24 hours to bring Malaysia’s tally to 2,407,382 infections.

Only Selangor reported 4-figure rise in new cases at 1,004, followed by Sarawak (767), Johor (610), Kelantan (565), Sabah (526), Perak (393), Penang (375), Terengganu (355), Kedah (312), Pahang (232), Kuala Lumpur (189), Negeri Sembilan (127) and Melaka (112). Fewest new cases were charted in Putrajaya (5), Labuan (12) and Perlis (29).

There were 10 Malaysians among the 14 imported cases, local transmissions involved 5,267 citizens (95.7%) and 235 foreigners. Of this total, 102 persons (1.8%) had to be hospitalised.

The 9,401 discharges brought total recoveries to 2,297,289 (95.4%), as active cases fell by 3,257 to 85,916 – with 66,065 (76.9%) in home quarantine, 12,592 (14.7%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres and 6,583 (7.7%) hospitalised.

Numbers are rising again though at intensive care units with 572 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus another 97 suspected) and among those needing breathing aids with 241 confirmed Covid-19 patients (plus another 92 suspected).

The grim statistic of lives lost to Covid-19 recorded another 69 confirmed fatalities to raise the death toll to 28,062, inclusive of another 11 brought-in-dead cases to raise this subtotal to 5,666.

There were only four clusters identified with one being education-related in Kuala Lumpur (Jalan Setiawangsa Sepuluh) and three others work-related in Penang (Lorong Jelawat Satu Perai) and Selangor (Industri Jalan KPB Tujuh and Industri Jalan P/1 – both in Hulu Langat).

The number of active clusters had dropped to 614 out of 5,699 identified todate.
