Police rescue Indonesian women forced to work without pay at Penang factory

BUKIT MERTAJAM, 15 Nov 2017:

Police rescued three Indonesian women who were forced to work without pay and confined in a factory for the last eight months, during a raid in Taman Machang Bubok here yesterday.

Seberang Perai Tengah police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the police had received a tip-off from the public – who stumbled upon a note written by the victims asking for help.

“A police team raided the factory at 10.40am and found three women, aged between 21 and 25, being locked up in a room at the premises. They were in a state of fear.

“The victims, who possess passports, wrote ‘ibu. Tolong saya, saya mau lari’ (madam. Help me, I want to run away) on a piece of paper and threw it outside the premises and spotted by a passer-by.”

Subsequently, the police detained four supervisors- aged between 21 and 66 – including two women, one of them is the mother of the factory owner to facilitate investigations.

Nik Ros Azhan said the owner of the factory producing pillowcases was currently abroad for business purposes and he would be detained as soon as he returned home.

“The four people are being remanded for two days.”

Separately, Port Dickson police are looking for 41 individuals – who are on the wanted list, including three women.

Port Dickson police chief Supt Zainudin Ahmad said these people are wanted – among others – for violent crimes, murder (one), rape (two), robbery (two), extortion (one), criminal intimidation (two), rioting (two), causing hurt (one),theft (nine), heavy vehicle hijacking (one), carjacking  (two), motorcycle theft (one ), housebreaking (nine), firearms  (three), kidnapping and wrongful confinement (one) and illegal gambling (four).

He further said police are looking for M. Batumali, 47 – last known address Ladang Hopeful Batang Berjuntai, 45600, Batang Berjuntai, Selangor – to assist investigations into a murder case in 2011.

“PD police are also looking for Ruslan Hasyim, 51, (last known address No. 222 Kampung Pasir Wardieburn Setapak, Kuala Lumpur) and Mohd Hazroun Ariffin, 34, ( K 54 Taman Geliga 2, Jalan Kuala Kemaman, 24000 Kemaman, Terengganu to assist investigations into rape cases.

Also V. Kanesan, 44, (116A Taman Desa Jaya 2, 08000, Sungai Petani, Kedah) in regard to housebreaking cases in 2013.
