GEORGE TOWN, 26 Nov 2017:
The ‘Pulau Pinang Bangkit’ water bill discounts will be shown in Penang water bills dated January-March 2018, according to the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP).
In a statement yesterday, PBAPP chief executive officer Datuk Jaseni Maidinsa said the corporation needed to compute each individual’s consumption before applying the correct amount to be discounted.
“There are 589,797 registered water consumers in Penang. Please note that the billing cycles for various groups and categories of water consumers in Penang are different.
“For example, the billing cycle for domestic consumers is bi-monthly while the billing cycle for trade consumers may be monthly or bi-monthly.”
He said the water meters of different groups of consumers located in the various areas in Penang were read by PBAPP water meter readers at different times.
As such, different consumers receive their water bills at different times, he said.
Jaseni said the water bill discount would be automatically generated and printed on PBAPP water bills and there was no need for the public to apply for the discount.
Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng, when launching the ‘Pulau Pinang Bangkit’ programme on Nov 9, announced a one-off RM500 aid to each flood victim – besides exemption of water conservation surcharge on domestic consumers for one cycle (two months), as well as a 50% discount on billing for domestic users and 25% for commercial users.
