KEPALA BATAS, 1 Oct 2020:
Sekolah Kebangsaan Permatang Janggus, Penaga near here has been ordered to close beginning today until Oct 8 after a teacher there tested positive for Covid-19.
Penang State Education Department director Abdul Rashid Abdul Samad said the closure order was issued to curb the spread of Covid-19.
“At the moment, the school will be closed for eight days and any other decision will be made after a meeting with the Ministry of Health (MoH).”
Abdul Rashid said he has yet to receive a full report from SK Permatang Janggus but was informed all students are required to undergo Covid-19 screening conducted at the school today.
It is learnt the female teacher, in her 40s, who resides in Sungai Petani, Kedah had complained of being unwell before receiving treatment at a hospital in that state and the result came out to be positive.
It is understood the teacher – who is the wife of a politician in Kedah – had recently travelled to Sabah with her husband.
A check at SK Permatang Janggus found parents and guardians were waiting for their children to undergo Covid-19 screening outside the school gate.
The parents said they were informed by the school management this morning via WhatsApp that all students must undergo the Covid-19 screening and home quarantine following the positive case reported.
Separately, Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamarudin is undergoing a 14-day self-quarantine at her residence despite testing negative for Covid-19 twice.
Her political secretary Nor Hizwan Ahmad said Zuraida underwent a swab test at KL International Airport 2 (klia2) after campaigning in the Sabah state election on Sept 26, and the result was negative.
The following day (Sept 27), Zuraida attended a programme in Langkawi in the morning and returned to Kuala Lumpur in evening.
On Sept 28, Zuraida attended the Malaysia Urban Forum programme in Kuala Lumpur.
“After being informed that there was a positive case of Covid-19 in the programme in Langkawi, she (Zuraida) again underwent a swab test on Sept 29 and the results was also negative,” he said in a statement today.
Nor Hizwan said Zuraida is currently undergoing self-quarantine for 14 days as recommended by MoH.
