KULIM, 25 April 2018:
The National Higher Education Fund Corporation (PTPTN) exempted 50,153 first-class graduates at all institutions of higher learning in the country from repayment of their loans between 1998 and March 2018.
PTPTN Marketing and Strategic Communications Department senior manager Abdul Ghaffar Yusop said the exempted loans amounted to RM1.526 billion.
“In Kedah alone, 3,346 first-class graduates benefited from this, where the total amount in loans converted to scholarships was RM96.91 million.
“This is one way by which the government, through PTPTN, recognises excellent students in all institutions of higher learning, regardless of whether they are private or public,” he said when met at the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary level Heritage Education Fund 2018 launching ceremony here, today.
In the programme, 1,940 Year One pupils in the Kulim-Bandar Baharu parliamentary constituency received RM100 each in the form of the 1Malaysia National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN1M) from the Kedah Education Heritage Fund 2018.
