SINGAPORE, 13 Jan 2018:
Like certain parts of its northern neighbour Malaysia, the mercury in Singapore has also dropped – with the lowest temperature recorded at 21.4 degrees Celsius (°C) in Jurong West as of 4pm yesterday.
“Singapore continues to experience cool and rainy weather from a monsoon surge,” said the city-state’s National Environment Agency (NEA) in its latest weather update.
NEA said the highest temperature was 24.7°C in Sentosa island.
Yesterday, Jurong West had also recorded the lowest temperature of 21.6°C and the daily minimum temperature at other locations ranged between 21.7°C and 23.1°C, it said.
NEA noted that in the past five years, temperatures below 21.4°C in the republic were recorded in 2013 (20.0°C), 2014 (20.1°C) and 2016 (21.2°C).
The agency said the current rainy weather is expected to gradually ease over the weekend.
For the next few days, the lowest temperature is forecast to range between 22°C and 24°C, it said.
In Malaysia, Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan was among the places that registered a low 21°C since midnight, very much lower than the normal 31°C to 32°C, according to the Meteorological Department.
Cameron Highlands reportedly recorded 15°C yesterday.
Malaysian Meteorological Department director-general Alui Bahari said the cold weather is the usual phenomenon during the period of the northeast monsoon, from November to March.
