Muar police seen in karaoke video transferred

JOHOR BAHRU, 9 Oct 2017:

A Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) officer and six personnel who allegedly let their guard down at an entertainment centre in Muar have been transferred to other departments with immediate effect.

Johor police chief Datuk Mohd Khalil Kader Mohd said disciplinary action was taken on the policemen duly after PDRM received information about the incident.

“PDRM cannot compromise on any disciplinary breach and will act sternly on those involved,” he said in a statement.

He said all PDRM officers and personnel must live up to the integrity required of them in upholding PDRM’s image as the country’s main law enforcers.

Bukit Aman police have begun investigations into the video recording of the seven policemen – who were then allegedly in the midst of entertaining themselves with a gambling den ‘boss’ at a karaoke lounge recently.

It is understood that one of the policemen is an inspector who heads the Pagoh police station.

It was learnt that the video – which featured the inspector, corporal, four lance coporals, and a detective corporal – went viral on the social media yesterday.

The lance corporal and detective corporal are attached to the Secret Society, Gaming and Vice Division (D7) while the corporal and three lance corporals are from a task force,.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said he was waiting for a full report from Johor police chief Khalil on the video recording.

“A thorough investigation will be conducted and action will be taken if the policemen had breached the law.”

Mohamad Fuzi said he had also directed the Bukit Aman Integrity and Standard Compliance Department to investigate and scrutinise the validity of the matter.

The eight-second video went viral after it was uploaded by a Facebook account holder, Jia Xing Chen with the title, ‘Police personnel entertaining themselves at nightclub with gambling ‘taukeh’.

Separately in MIRI, police arrested 29 illegal gambling suspects – including three foreigners in Sarawak last week.

State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) chief Datuk Dev Kumar said in a statement the suspects – aged between 16 and 64 – also included six women.

“They are being investigated for offences under the Common Gaming House Act 1953.”

He said 16 raids were conducted in 10 districts in Sarawak from Oct 2 to 8 that covered remote locations such as plantations in Marudi and in Tedungan, Limbang near the Limbang-Brunei border.

“Fourteen of the raids involved illegal 4D that resulted in the arrest of 17 individuals and seizure of cash amounting to RM7,329 as well as mobile phones, portable printers, calculators, betting slips and stationeries.”

Dev said police raided two makeshift tents that organised “holo” gambling in Tedungan, Limbang and a plantation at Bakong, Marudi, and arrested of 12 suspects.
