MCO day 59: Daily new Covid-19 cases at 36, mainly foreigners

PUTRAJAYA, 15 May 2020:

A total of 36 new Covid-19 positive cases were reported as at noon today, with 28 of them involving non-Malaysian citizens, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said this brings to 6,855 the total of Covid-19 positive cases in the country, while the number of infectivity cases is 1,304.

There were 88 recoveries today, bringing the total number of those who have fully recovered and discharged to 5,439 cases or 79.3 per cent of the cumulative Covid-19 cases, he told a daily media conference today.

Dr Noor Hisham said the cumulative number of death due to Covid-19 in the country remained at 112, with no death reported today.

Meanwhile, barbed wire fencing installed in the market area in Jalan Pasar and Jalan Pudu in capital city Kuala Lumpur since midnight is as part of tightened security control under the Movement Control Order (MCO), police said.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim said the area, which is guarded by soldiers, had not been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO).

“It’s not the EMCO but a tightening of the MCO, similar to what was done in the Jalan Raja Bot Market in Chow Kit.”

The barbed wire fencing was erected from D’Majestic Place to the intersection of Jalan Pasar/Jalan Pudu and Jalan Landak.

Also, the interstate travel ban is still in force even though the government has allowed spouses living in different states to meet during the CMCO.

Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the government was aware many were longing and missing their loved ones but the interstate travel was still prohibited to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 virus.

“We allow spouses living in different states to meet on humanitarian reasons. We understand many who have not seen their parents for two months as the law prohibits interstate travel.

“The rule is still in force, there are no exceptions… still subject to the standard operating procedures even for single people.

“Please be patient, when it is time to ease the ban then we will do it but as of today, the ban is still in force,” he told a daily press conference today.
