PUTRAJAYA, 14 May 2020:
Another 40 new positive Covid-19 cases have been reported in Malaysia, among the lowest recorded since the imposition of the Movement Control Order (MCO) on March 18, said Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
He said 31 of the new cases were foreigners and there were no imported cases.
“The number of positive Covid-19 cases in Malaysia now stands at 6,819 and 1,356 are active cases with infectivity,” he said at a daily news conference here today.
He said 16 cases are still being treated at the Intensive Care Unit, with four requiring ventilator support.
He said 70 cases had recovered and were discharged today, bringing the cumulative figure for recoveries to 5,351 or 78.5% of the total number of cases.
Another Covid-19 fatality was reported, bringing the death toll to 112, he added.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,150 individuals in Petaling Jaya’s Jalan Othman areas in Selangor, which had been placed under the Enhanced Movement Control Order (EMCO) until May 23, has been screened for Covid-19.
Petaling Jaya police chief ACP Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal said they comprised 1,555 locals and 595 foreigners.
“The search and screen operation had begun yesterday with the cooperation from the Ministry of Health (MoH), RELA and Petaling Jaya City Council to track down the individuals who did not give any response when visited by the MoH healthcare workers,” he said in a statement today.
Nik Ezanee said all premises from Zone A, B and C in the affected areas had also been inspected.
The areas were placed under the EMCO since Sunday.
