PUTRAJAYA, 20 Sept 2021:
Daily additions of Covid-19 infections stood at 14,345 persons testing positive over the past 24 hours, raising Malaysia’s tally past another milestone to 2,112,175 cases.
The seven states with 4-figure new cases are Sarawak (3,611), Johor (1,598), Selangor (1,365), Sabah (1,255), Penang (1,170), Perak (1,090) and Kelantan (1,050).
Triple digits were recorded in Kedah (967), Terengganu (804), Pahang (779), Kuala Lumpur (307), Melaka (162) and Negeri Sembilan (125). Fewest cases were reported in Putrajaya (11) and Perlis (51) while Labuan had none.
There were 27 Malaysians among the 43 imported cases, local transmissions involved 13,072 citizens (91.4%) and 1,230 foreigners. Of this total, 212 (1.5%) persons were hospitalised.
With 16,814 discharges bringing total recoveries to 1,880,736 (89%), active cases dropped by 8,891 to 210,468 – with 174,548 (82.9%) in home quarantine, 23,452 (11.1%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres and 11,277 (5.4%) hospitalised.
Confirmed Covid-19 patients at intensive care units rose again to 906 (plus another 261 suspected) while confirmed Covid-19 patients needing breathing aids stayed steady at 407 (plus another 229 suspected).
The number of lives lost to Covid-19 rose by 376, inclusive of 75 brought in dead, to raise the death toll to 23,443.
With 40,375,056 doses administered, 18,453,322 (56.5%) of Malaysia’s population had been fully vaccinated and 22,001,266 (67.4%) got their first jabs – while the percentage was even higher for adults at 78.8% fully vaccinated and 93.2% having received their first jabs.
Today also saw the start of Covid-19 vaccinations for 3.2 million teens nationwide.
For the first time in months, there was an imported cluster in Johor (Tompok Utara Satu JB) among the 23 identified today, together with a high-risk group also in Johor (Jalan Seri Impian Satu Kluang).
The eight community clusters are in Kelantan (Jalan Kampung Baloh Kota Bharu, Kampung Belukar Aur Cina Pasir Mas and Kampung Seterpa Peringat Kota Bharu), Pahang (Sawit Sri Meranti Kuantan) and Sarawak (Chama Ajai Beluru, Jalan Bintulu-Miri 3, Sungai Separai 2 Tatau and Ulu Lubai Limbang).
The 13 workplace clusters comprised:
- 5 in Joor (Batu Sembilan Bakri Muar, Industri Sri Sulong Dua Batu Pahat, Industri Tongkang Pechah 14 Batu Pahat, Jalan Industri A1 Penawar Kota Tinggi and Tapak Bina Mutiara Perdana);
- 2 in Kelantan (Industri Jalan Kepa Gua Musang and Jalan Gajah Mati Kota Bharu);
- 3 in Perak (Industri Jalan Johan 2/6 Kinta, Jalan David Sung Manjung and Jalan Pusat Perniagaan Silibin Dua Kinta);
- 1 each in Melaka (Industri Pegoh Alor Gajah), Sabah (Sawit M1 Kinabatangan) and Selangor (Industri Kompleks Perabut 2 Kuala Langat).
The number of active clusters had further fallen to 1,335 out of 5,305 identified todate, contributing 992 out of today’s new Covid-19 cases, close contact screening made up another 8,273 cases and 5,037 came from other screenings.
