MCO day 550: Daily Covid-19 new cases at 15,549

PUTRAJAYA, 18 Sept 2021:

There was a big drop in daily additions to Covid-19 infections with 15,549 persons testing positive, raising the nation’s tally to 2,067,326 cases.

The seven states with 4-figure new infections are Sarawak (2,929), Johor (2,208), Selangor (1,995), Sabah (1,395), Penang (1,375), Kelantan (1,214), Perak (1,120) and Kedah (1,073).

Triple digits were recorded in Terengganu (755), Pahang (634), Kuala Lumpur (382), Melaka (263) and Negeri Sembilan (131). Fewest new cases were reported in Labuan (11), Putrajaya (31) and Perlis (33).

There was a Malaysian among the five imported cases, local transmissions were made up of 13,954 citizens (89.8%) and 1,590 foreigners. Of this total, 263  (1.69%) were hospitalised.

The 17,205 discharged brought total recoveries to (1,840,453 (88.4%) while the number of active cases had dropped sharply by 5,781 to 221,339 – with 183,897 (83.1%) in home quarantine, 24,577 (11.1%) at Covid-19 Quarantine and Low-Risk Treatment Centres and 11,661 (5.3%) hospitalised.

Those at intensive care units also dipped with 888 patients being Covid-19 positive (with another 277 suspected) and 401 Covid-19 positive patients needing breathing aids (plus another 288 suspected).

The number of lives lost to Covid-19 has risen by another 388, with 64 brought in dead, raising the death toll to 22,743 – with casualties in Selangor (167), Johor (76), Kedah (48), Penang (24), Sabah (22), Kuala Lumpur (12), Pahang (12), Kelantan (10), Perak (7), Terengganu (5), Perlis (2), Sarawak (2) and Negeri Sembilan (1).

There were two high-risk groups in Johor (Batu 19 Jalan Besar Kulai) and Perak (Jalan Kompleks Sukan Kinta) among the 16 new clusters identified today, together with four community clusters in Kelantan (Jalan Kampung Tok Jawa Bachok and Kampung Kubang Gatal Pasir Mas), Pahang (Kampung Ulu Pareh Bentong) and Sarawak (Nansang Wak Pakan).

The 10 workplace clusters comprised:

  • 3 in Johor (Industri Jalan Besar 38 batu Pahat, Jalan Halia Kluang and Jalan Industri Lima Tangkak);
  • 2 in Selangor (Industri Jalan Perigi Nenas 6/1 Klang and Jalan Bidara 6/3 Kuala Selangor);
  • 1 each in Labuan (Udara Membedai), Penang (Lorong Seri Murni Dua Perai), Perak (Industri Jalan Johan 2/1A Kinta), Sabah (Sawit Safoda Kinabatangan) and Sarawak (Pelut Baram Telang Usan).

The number of active clusters further dropped to 1,364 out of 5,263 identified todate, contributing 1,118 out of today’s new Covid-19 cases, close contact screening made up 8,340 cases and 6,086 came from other screenings.
