PUTRAJAYA, 10 June 2021:
There were another 5,671 additions to positive Covid-19 infections over the past 24 hours, raising the nation’s tally to 639,562 cases.
The Klang Valley made up half of today’s new cases with Selangor (1,510) having the highest, followed by Kuala Lumpur (769) and Negeri Sembilan (593).
Other states with more than 200 new cases are Sarawak (631), Johor (524), Kedah (309), Sabah (233) and Kelantan (262).
The remaining eight states are Perlis (3),Putrajaya (18), Labuan (106), Terengganu (108), Pahang (112), Perak (143), Penang (166) and Melaka (184).
With half the eight imported cases being Malaysians, local transmissions involved 4,880 citizens (86.2%) and 783 foreigners.
High patient discharges for three consecutive days now saw 7,325 individuals declared free of Covid-19, raising total recoveries to 556,030 as active cases further dipped to 79,848 – but critical cases remained high with 911 patients at intensive care units and 462 needing respirators.
Another 73 fatalities over the past 24 hours brought the death toll to 3,684 – with casualties in Selangor (29), Johor (11), Negeri Sembilan (8), Kedah (4), Kuala Lumpur (4), Labuan (4), Penang (4), Pahang (3), Kelantan (2), Melaka (1), Perak (1), Sabah (1) and Terengganu (1).
There was a religious cluster in Sabah (Kampung Lobou) among the 22 identified today, together with three community cluster in Negeri Sembilan (Kampung Lakai Jelebu) and Sarawak (Bali Pie and Jalan Samarakan).
The remaining 18 are workplace clusters in Johor ( Jalan Bandar Pasir Gudang, Jalan Besar Batu Enam Muar, Jalan Bukit Satu Zink JB, Jalan Lee Bah Chai Muar, Jalan Seri Austin and Ploteknologi Tangkak), Kedah (Dah Pekan Baru), Kuala Lumpur (Tapak Bina Jalan Kolam Air Kepong), Penang (Jalan Besar Perai, Jalan Perusahaan Maju Empat and Lebuh Sungai Tiram Satu) and Selangor (Industri Kampung Jaya, Jalan Dua Olak Lempit Kuala Langat, Jalan Perindustrian Balakong Jaya Dua, Jalan Tanjung Klang. Jalan Tiga Salak Tinggi, Tapak Bina Alam Perdana Kuala Selangor) plus a combined KL/Selangor cluster (Jalan SS Lapan Empat).
The 745 active clusters out of 2,422 identified todate contributed 1,182 of today’s new Covid-19 cases, 3,238 cases came from close contact screening and 1,243 from other screenings.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham also noted there had been 60 festival-related clusters identified from May 13 to today (June 10), with two linked to Hari Gawai and the rest (58) from Hari Raya Aidilfitri.
After 13,023 underwent screening, he said 3,511 Covid-19 cases were identified – representing a 27% infection rate. Worse, of these who tested positive, he noted 20 have died and 11 more still remain at intensive care wards.
