Daily additions of Covid-19 infections in Malaysia continue to remain high with 6,239 new cases reported over the past 24 hours and raising the overall tally to 633,891 cases. At this rate of daily additions, the nation’s tally will pass 700,000 cases by June 20.
Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham tweeted the number of Covid-19 test results are slow in being updated by laboratories outside the Health Ministry, especially on weekends and public holidays – but he assured the reporting standards here are still within World Health Organisation parameters.
For today’s new cases, there were seven Malaysians among the 11 imported while local transmissions were made up of 5,377 citizens (86.3%) and 851 foreigners.
Over half of today’s new cases are in the Klang Valley as Selangor continued charting the highest daily figures with 2,291 cases, followed by Kuala Lumpur (704) and Negeri Sembilan (507).
States with at least 200 new cases are Johor (468), Sarawak (419), Kelantan (340), Pahang (232), Sabah (232) and Labuan (200).
The remaining seven states with fewer than 200 cases are Perlis (4), Putrajaya (17), Kedah (135), Melaka (150), Terengganu (171), Perak (175) and Penang (194).
Discharges outpaced new Covid-19 cases for the second consecutive day with 7,386 patients as total recoveries rose to 548,705 (86.56%) as active cases dipped to 81,575 with 905 at intensive care units and 453 needing respirators.
Another 75 fatalities today brought the death toll to 3,611, with casualties in Selangor (23), Johor (18), Kelantan (7), Kedah (5), Kuala Lumpur (5), Melaka (3), Negeri Sembilan (3), Sabah (3), Perak (2), Labuan (1), Penang (1) and Terengganu (1).
Among the 15 new clusters identified today are one education-related in Putrajaya (Putra Sembilan) and a community cluster in Kelantan (Gong Mengkeleh).
The other 13 workplace clusters are in Johor (Jalan Keluli Sembilan), Kedah (Dah Mengkudu), Kelantan ( Kampung Huda Kota Bharu), Penang (Lorong Perusahaan 8A Seberang Perai), Perak (Industri Medan Tasek), Sabah (Jalan Wisma Kota Kinabalu and Lot Sembilan Beaufort), Selangor (Alam Jaya Dua Kuala Selangor), Camar Lapan Kuala Langat, Industri Balakong Tujuh, Perusahaan Dua Batu Caves and Sungai Rasau 27) and Terengganu (Industri Teluk Kalong Kemaman).
The 734 active clusters out of 2,400 identified todate contributed 1,008 of today’s new Covid-19 cases, with 3,762 from close contact screenings and 1,458 cases from other screenings.
