PUTRAJAYA, 7 June 2021:
Barely a week after nationwide lockdown measures took effect on June 1, hope beckons the latest Covid-19 outbreak wave is being reined in as new cases dropped to 5,271 over the past 24 hours as the overall tally stood at 622,086 infections.
The 14 imported cases included four Malaysians, local transmissions were made up of 4,763 citizens (90.6%) and 494 foreigners.
Selangor recorded a big drop of new positives to 1,371 cases, followed by Sarawak (703), Negeri Sembilan (571), Kuala Lumpur (455), Johor (355), Kelantan (341), Sabah (336) and Labuan (209).
There was more good news with half the states reporting less than 200 new Covid-19 cases – Kedah (194), Melaka (178), Perak (177), Penang (153) and Terengganu (117) . Also, three states had less than a 100 new infections – Perlis (1), Putrajaya (8) and Pahang (99).
The 7,548 discharges brought total recoveries to 534,357 (85.9%) and saw active cases dip to 84,269 – though patients at intensive care units rose to 902 as 447 needed respirators.
Another 82 fatalities raised the death toll to 3,460, with casualties in Selangor (23), Johor (17), Negeri Sembilan (11), Kuala Lumpur (8), Kedah (5), Kelantan (4), Perak (4), Sarawak (4), Labuan (2), Melaka (1), Penang (1), Sabah (1) and Terengganu (1). Sadly, another six Covid-19 patients died at home and were brought in dead to hospitals in Kuala Lumpur (2), Selangor (2), Kelantan (1) and Sarawak (1).
The 23 new clusters today were mainly workplace related, together with a high-risk group in Johor (Jalan Keranji) and six community clusters in Sabah (Jalan Budi Tawau, Kampung Bolong Baru and Taman Wawasan), Sarawak (Jalan Masket and Sungai Durin) and Terengganu (Pelandang).
The 16 workplace clusters are in Johor (Jalan Besar Rengit, Jalan Parit Hulu and Jalan Perindustrian Tujuh Tangkak), Kedah (Dah Ria Jaya), Kelantan (Kampung Gajah Mati), Kuala Lumpur (Jalan Walter Granier), Negeri Sembilan (Industri Kampung Gebok and Pedas 2), Penang (Jalan Burma), Sabah (Hamparan), Sarawak (Jalan Airport Miri and jalan Ilmu Miri) and Selangor (Integrasi Rawang Satu, Jalan Keretapi Lama Klang, Jalan SS Enam and Jalan Tujuh Selatan Sepang).
The 726 active clusters out of 2,361 identified todate contributed817 of today’s Covid-19 cases, close contact screenings made up another 3,023 cases and 1,417 came from other screenings.
