MCO day 379: Daily Covid-19 cases creeps up to 1,482

PUTRAJAYA, 31 March 2021:

Just two days after daily new Covid-19 cases fell below 1,000 on Monday to 941, the 24-hour running tally has crept up again to 1,133 yesterday and 1,482 today – raising the overall total to 345,500.

New infections outpaced the 1,070 discharges today as total recoveries stood at 329,624 (95.4%).

With active cases at 14,604, patients at intensive care units stood at 164 and 81 needing respirators.

Both imported Covid-19 cases involved non-citizens, local transmissions were made up of 896 Malaysians (60.5%) and 584 foreigners.

There was a big surge in Selangor today to 661, while Penang’s Covid-19 case tally rose to 200 and Sarawak’s stood at 176. Perlis recorded one new case, with Terengganu at two, Putrajaya at three, Labuan at eight and all other states charting double-digit new infections.

Another seven deaths – with four in Selangor, plus one each in Johor, Sabah and Sarawak – brought the fatality toll to 1,272.

There were another 13 new clusters identified today – with seven being workplace-related, five community-based and one high-risk cluster.

Workplace clusters were recorded in Kedah (Delima Baiduri), Labuan (Pulau Enoe), Penang (Jalan Jelawat), Sarawak (Jalan Kingsway and Bulatan Aman) and Selangor (Hevea Scruciana and Jalan Rasmi).

Kedah (Emas Bemban and Layar) and Sabah (Kampung Baru Pasir Putih and Rimbayan) had two community clusters each while the Sarawak cluster is at Jalan Baji. The high-risk cluster of Lorong Mulia was charted in Johor.

As 12 clusters ended today, there are still 370 active out of the 1,372 identified todate.
