MCO day 352: Daily new Covid-19 cases at 2,063 & another 5 deaths

PUTRAJAYA, 4 March 2021:

While new daily Covid-19 cases rose again today to 2,063, this figure continued to be outpaced by recoveries at 2,922 for an overall recovery rate of 92.1% or 283,629 discharges.

Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said there were nine imported new cases today (2 Malaysians and seven foreigners and local transmissions involved 1,419 Malaysians (69.1%) and 635 non-citizens – bringing the overall infection tally to 307,943 cases.

The number of patients in intensive care units dipped to 193 but those needing respirators rose to 99. There were also another five deaths, bringing overall fatalities to 1,153 (0.38%) – all Malaysians. There were three deaths recorded in Selangor and one each in Kuala Lumpur and Pahang; all were aged 70 and older, with chronic conditions like high blood pressure and diabetes.

Selangor continued to lead in number of new Covid-19 cases at 630, followed by Sarawak (361), Penang (337), Johor (255), Kuala Lumpur (120) and Perak (101).

Other states had double digit new cases while single digits were recorded in Putrajaya (7) and Melaka (3). The clean record for Perlis was broken today with a new Covid-19 infection and Labuan was the only territory not to have any new Covid-19 cases.

There were 14 new clusters today – with 12 being workplace-related and one each for the high-risk and community categories.

Selangor and Johor recorded five new clusters each. Selangor’s were all workplace-related at Jalan Bukit Tiga, Jalan Damansara, Industri Subang, Jasmine Empat and Lagenda Suria while Johor had three workplace clusters at Jalan Distripak B6, Jalan Maju Satu and Jalan Kabel Gemilang. The high-risk cluster of Persiaran Kempas Baru and community cluster of Jalan Limau Manis are also in Johor.

Penang recorded two workplace clusters at Tapak Bina Queens Waterfront and Jalan Bukit nenas while Negeri Sembilan has a single workplace cluster at Tapak Bina Nilam Sari.

Overall, 1,177 clusters have been identified – with 687 ended, including 11 today. Of the 490 active clusters, 79 had new Covid-19 cases today. The highest number of new Covid-19 cases in active clusters were recorded at Lorong Bakau (90), Jalan Kebun Nenas (90) and Tapak Bina Queens Waterfront (87).
