PUTRAJAYA, 13 Jan 2021:
A total of 2,985 new Covid-19 cases were reported in Malaysia today – bringing the cumulative figure for positive cases to 144,518, said Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.
Dr Noor Hisham said 994 cases had recovered today, raising the cumulative figure for recoveries to 111,578, or 77.2% of total cases. “The number of active cases is 32,377,” he said at a press conference on Covid-19 here today.
Dr Noor Hisham said two of the new cases were imported. “Selangor leads in new daily cases with 837, followed by Johor with 535 and Sabah which recorded 450 cases.”
He said 197 cases were in intensive care, with 79 requiring ventilator support. He said four fatalities were reported today, three in Sabah and one in Johor, involving three men and a woman, including two Malaysians. “This brings the Covid-19 death toll in Malaysia to 563, or 0.39% of total cases.”
The Health Ministry today detected 11 new Covid-19 clusters – including at a dialysis centre in Melaka and wedding ceremony in Negeri Sembilan.
Dr Noor Hisham said the remaining nine clusters detected comprised two each in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur, three in Johor and one each in Kelantan and Kedah.
The Malim Dialysis cluster in Melaka was detected in Melaka Tengah and Alor Gajah districts involving the index case (case no. 130,982) which was reported positive on Jan 8 through screening of symptomatic individuals.
“The cluster name refers to the locality where the cases in this cluster were reported, that is a dialysis centre in Jalan Malim, Balai Panjang, Melaka, and so far 75 individuals have been screened with 13 cases confirmed positive.”
In Negeri Sembilan, the Kampung Tengah cluster involved a wedding reception in Seremban district where the index case (case no. 127,016) was reported positive on Jan 7 from screening of symptomatic individuals.
