KUANTAN, 13 March 2018:
Government and private agencies in the state are still not open to the idea of having on-site childcare facilities in the offices, says Datuk Seri Shahaniza Shamsuddin.
The State Women and Family, Communications and Multimedia Committee chairman said among the reasons was there were already several private and government nurseries in the housing areas.
She said having a nursery in the office could avoid untoward incidents as parents are around to monitor their children from time to time.
“The government had for quite sometime been encouraging employers to set up nurseries in the offices so that working parents do not have to worry over the safety of their children.
“On top of that, children sent to these nurseries are assured of quality education and childcare,” she told reporters after the opening of UCYP Kindergarten at the Pahang Foundation College (KYP) Town Campus, here yesterday.
Shahaniza said setting up the nursery was a win-win situation for the agencies and their workers as parents could give their full commitment to their jobs.
Meanwhile, the UCYP Kindergarten to be opened in April will be able to accommodate 55 students under the guidance of six teachers who are KYP Early Childhood Education lecturers and students.
The lessons, to be in line with the syllabus set by the Ministry of Education Malaysia, will be taught in English.
“The entry fee is much lower than that of private kindergartens and apart from KYP staff the public are welcome to register their children here.”
