Man survives Penang shooting, 11 bullet shells found

BUKIT  MERTAJAM, 27 May 2018: 

A mobile phone salesman was injured on the right arm, shoulder and thigh after he was shot several times by a man at a traffic light in Jalan Sentosa near Taman Sentosa foodcourt here yesterday.

In the incident at about 11.15am, the 22-year-old victim came out of Sentosa Corner after having breakfast with his friends – to get into his Honda Accord to go home in Machang Bubok near here.

Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) police chief ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said when stopping at a traffic light in Jalan Sentosa here, a man – with his face covered – suddenly came out of a car and fired several shots at the victim’s vehicle before fleeing.

“The victim managed to get out of his car. After that, his vehicle slid into a Toyota Hilux in front.

“He was then assisted by members of the public into the foodcourt nearby before being sent to Bukit Mertajam Hospital. He is now in stable condition.”

Nik Ros Azhan said from an inspection of the incident site, police found 11 bullet shells on the road near the victim’s car and efforts to hunt the suspect was being carried out.

He said the motive of the shooting was still being investigated and the case was investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code.

Nik Ros Azhan also called on people with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station to assist investigation.

“We also hope to seek the assistance of residents with CCTV (closed-circuit television) in the vicinity to get visuals of the suspect.”
