Parents waiting for their children at a bus shelter near Sekolah Kebangsaan Sri Serdang, Seri Kembangan yesterday afternoon were shocked when they heard shots being fired – causing a man to die and another injured.
In the incident at 5.45pm, one of two men on a motorcycle was said to have fired several shots at a man – in his 40s – at the bus shelter, killing him at the scene.
In a statement, Selangor Crime Investigation Department head SAC Fadzil Ahmat confirmed another man in his 30s – who was nearby – was also injured, believed to be by gunshots to his back.
He said both victims were waiting for their children at the school.
“During the incident, there were many people waiting for their children to leave the school. The victim is in stable condition and being treated at the Serdang Hospital.”
Fadzil said the murdered victim has yet to be identified and the Forensic Unit is currently inspecting the location.
“Further investigations are being carried out,” he said, adding that the case was being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
A witness said he was waiting for his child near the school gate when the incident occurred. “All the parents ran helter-skelter. It was a frightening experience for us today.”
Another witness who only wanted to be known as Ahmad, 33, said during the incident he was waiting about 10m from the bus shelter for his daughter to leave the school.
When he heard the gunshots, he thought it was the sound of fireworks, before he saw parents at the bus shelter running helter-skelter. “When the commotion subsided, we saw a man lying on the ground, with blood around him.”
However, Ahmad said, he did not see who fired the shots. “Other witnesses said there were people on a motorcycle who shot the victim and escaped.”
Another witness known as Din said he was less than 5m from the location when the incident happened.
“Today, the bus shelter was crowded with parents waiting for their children because it had just stopped raining, suddenly there were loud explosive sounds at the bus shelter, I thought there were fireworks.”
The location is only 1km from the Serdang Police Station.
Meanwhile in IPOH, one of two robbers armed with a knife attacked a man before escaping with RM33,000 in front of a bank in Greentown here on Wednesday.
The 25-year-old victim who was also robbed of RM150 and a gold ring sustained abdominal injuries in the 3pm incident.
He was warded at a private hospital where his condition was described as stable.
Ipoh police chief ACP Mohd Ali Tamby said the victim was about to deposit the money belonging to a company he was working for, when the armed man and his accomplice held him up and demanded the money.
He said the victim fearing for his life, handed over the money to the duo- who escaped on a motorcycle.
“Initial investigations revealed there was neither witness nor closed-circuit television camera in the area,” he said in a statement.
