Man shot dead at Penang carpark

GEORGE TOWN, 14 Jan 2019: 

A construction contractor was shot dead by an unidentified man  at a car park of the Penang City Council (MBPP) Flats at Jalan Sungai Pinang here last night.

Timur Laut district police chief ACP Che Zaimani Che Awang said the incident occurred at about 11.30pm while the victim – identified as Mohammad Nazrulhisyam Mohamed Meera, 27 – was having a chat with about six friends at the car park.

He said a Yamaha 135 LC motorcycle with two men, dressed in black and wearing crash helmet with visor, had stopped nearby.

“The  pillion rider then got down from the motorcycle and fired several shots, which hit the victim on the head and body, before jumping on the machine again and fled.”

He said the victim was taken in a ambulance to Penang Hospital, but died during treatment at 12.48am today.

Police were investigating the motive of the attack, said Che Zamani, adding that based on preliminary investigation, the victim had previous criminal records.

 He urged those with information on the incident to contact the nearest police station.

Separately, police are looking for a witness to facilitate investigation on a fight that broke out in front of a shopping centre in Seremban on Friday.

 Seremban district police chief ACP Thiew Hock Poh, in a statement today,  identified the witness as  S.Munisvaran, 37 – whose last known address is at Jalan Mutiara Galla 7, Seremban.

He said the police had so far arrested four men, aged between 21 and 39, who were believed to be involved in the fight which broke out about 10.20pm on Friday.

They are now in remand until tomorrow, he said.
