KLANG, 5 Jan 2019:
One man drowned while another survived when their fibre boat overturned due to strong winds and rough seas near the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Power Station here on Thursday.
Selangor Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) director Capt Mohammad Rosli Kassim said they received an emergency call at about 3.15pm and a search and rescue team was despatched immediately.
“We found Amir Hamzah Mohd Jani, 55, who survived by clinging to an oil barrel while his friend Syed Noor Masadi, 51, was found drowned at a distance of 0.8 nautical miles from Perepat, Kapar, near here,” he said in a statement.
Mohammad Rosli said the two victims from Sungai Sembilang, Jeram near here, had gone out to the sea to fish at about 3am.
He reminded the maritime community to always put safety first, especially in terms of wearing a life jacket.
“The use of life jacket is very important and it should not be regarded as a burden because wearing it can help a person survive while waiting to be rescued.”
