PUTRAJAYA, 18 Sept 2021:
With the rate of Covid-19 vaccinations having reached over half of Malaysia’s overall population, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said daily new cases could fall below 5,000 by end-October.
This forecast is based on herd immunity being achieved with at least 80% of the nation’s population having received both doses to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
Should there be a delay in achieving the 80% vaccination target, daily new Covid-19 cases will dip below 5,000 only come mid-December.
The same forecast also shows Malaysia potentially recording fewer than 10,000 cases daily as early as a month from now, by mid-October. Vaccination delays could see daily Covid-19 new cases in the four-figures only towards end-November.
So far, Malaysia has administered 39,685,414 doses of the Covid-19 vaccine, fully inoculating 55% of the overall population and 76.8% of the adult population.
