PUTRAJAYA, 3 Oct 2020:
A lift maintenance worker was trapped and crushed to death while carrying out elevator maintenance work at Putra Harmoni Apartment, Precinct 9, here yesterday.
Putrajaya Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) director Hafizal Mohd Razali confirmed the incident and said the 36-year-old man died at the scene.
He said, the Putrajaya Fire and Rescue team, who arrived at the scene at 12.23pm after receiving a distress call at about 12.20pm regarding the incident, took half an hour to remove the trapped victim.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene by the medical team, he said.
Separately, 13 Chinese nationals were fined RM1,500 each in default two months’ jail by the magistrate’s court here for submitting false police reports to a senior officer at the Immigration Department last month.
The accused comprising 10 men and three women, pleaded guilty before magistrate Noraisyah Mohd Yusof after the charges were read in English.
All accused were charged with providing false police report by claiming they lost their passports to the Immigration senior deputy director on the fourth floor of the Department at about 10am on Sept 21.
The charge was framed under Section 182 of the Penal Code and read together with Section 511 of the same act.
In the same court, eight of them also pleaded guilty to a charge of overstaying in Malaysia under Section 15 (1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/1963 and were fined RM10,000 each in default of six months’ jail while another Chinese male national was fined RM4,500 in default three months’ jail for being in the country without a valid pass.
They committed the offence at the commercial crime investigation division, Putrajaya police headquarters at about 11am on Sept 23.
In LUMUT, the body of a man – believed to be a Myanmar national – was found yesterday morning in a hut at a shrimp pond in Kampung Acheh, Sitiawan nearby, covered in blood.
Manjung district police chief ACP Nor Omar Sappi said police received information on the discovery of the body of a man, estimated to be in his 30s, from the owner of the pond at 9.30am.
“Preliminary investigations found traces of injuries on the head of the victim, who was an employee of the shrimp pond, believed to have been assaulted by his countryman,” he said in a statement.
Nor Omar said that the victim was working at the shrimp pond with two other workers while the suspect was a former employee and was sleeping at the victim’s house.
“The victim and the suspect are believed to have been fighting, but the cause of the fight and the weapons used are still being investigated,” he said, adding that the suspect in, his 20s, was detained with the help of the victim’s employer.
