JASIN, 31 Oct 2017:
Ten people were reported to have been injured in an accident involving an express bus, a tour bus and a hydrochloric acid tanker truck at KM178.4 North South Expressway (PLUS) northbound near Jasin junction today.
Melaka Fire and Rescue deputy director Noor Hisham Kamal said those injured were the lorry driver, and the driver and eight passengers of the express bus.
“Three fire trucks from Jasin, Jasin Bistari and Tangkak fire stations arrived at the scene about one minute following a call to the department at 9.48am.
“Thankfully the lorry was not carrying any chemicals. The victims were rushed to Jasin Hospital for treatment.”
He said the cause of the accident was still under investigation but from earlier reports received by the department, the express bus was believed to have attempted to overtake the tanker truck.
He said the PLUS expressway was a safe traffic zone but technical factors and the driving attitude of road users might cause accidents.
“All drivers no matter what type of vehicle they are driving must abide by the speed limit and ensure that their vehicle is in good condition besides practising courteous driving to avoid any unfavourable incidents.”
