KUALA LUMPUR, 6 June 2017:
A lawyer and a Philippine national were among three men who were fined between RM750 and RM900 by the magistrate’s court here today when they admitted to a charge of smoking in a prohibited area of the court complex here in April.
Lawyer Wan Azwan Aiman Wan Fakhruddin, 31, made the plea before magistrate Siti Radziah Kamaruddin and was fined RM750.
Ridzuan Mohd Fauzi, 39, and Filipino national, R. Guevara Cortez, 35, also made the same plea before magistrate Zuhair Rosli and were each fined RM750 and RM900, respectively after the charges were read out separately.
They were accused of smoking in the Left Wing Level 1, Jalan Duta Court Complex which is a non-smoking area, in accordance with Rule 11 (1) (h) Control of Tobacco Product Regulations 2004. They committed the offence between 10.35am and 10.45am, on April 6.
Two prosecuting officers, Nurhuda Mohd Ramli and Amirul Hisham Mohd Eisa, from the District Health Office in Kepong prosecuted while the trio were not represented.
