KL police nab GrabCar driver for raping passenger

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 June 2017: 

Police have arrested the driver of a GrabCar service who allegedly raped a woman passenger in his car at Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan, yesterday.

Serdang Police chief ACP Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said the 30-year-old man was picked up at 10pm yesterday in Sungai Buloh in a police operation by a team from the Serious Crimes Division of the Serdang Police headquarters.

He said the man allegedly raped the 29-year-old woman, who was in a state of drunkenness, at about 4am after she had hailed the service and then sent her to her house.

“The police have seized the suspect’s Myvi car and his clothes,” he said in a statement here today.

Megat Mohamad Aminuddin said the suspect was being investigated under Section 376 of the Penal Code which provides for a maximum jail term of 20 years and whipping upon conviction.
