Kepong noodle factory raided for using expired halal certification

KUALA LUMPUR, 20 May 2019: 

The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry raided a yellow noodle and kuey teow processing factory at Taman Sri Ehsan, Kepong, on Friday for using halal logo not sanctioned by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim).

The ministry’s Kuala Lumpur enforcement chief Azeem Nazuri said the factory, which began its operation in 2003, was raided at 11pm.

“Investigations revealed that the factory has once had the halal certificate but failed to renew it for the last nine years.

“Also seized were dozen packs of kuey teow and laksa, as well as plastic wrappers and various documents estimated at RM2,020.”

Azeem said it was also found the level of cleanliness of the factory was low and the closure of the premises would be carried out by the Gombak District Health Office.

He added that statements from the factory owner, who is in his 40s, and workers had been taken to facilitate investigations.
