PETALING JAYA, 18 Oct 2017:
A security guard pleaded not guilty at the magistrate’s court here yesterday for assaulting and uttering offensive words against a policeman.
N. Ganesan, 40, allegedly used criminal force to frighten a public servant, Corporal Che Shazlan Adli Nawi, from carrying out his duty, by hitting the side of his head at the parking area, Seroja Apartment, Taman Puchong Perdana, Puchong, here at 8.30pm, on Sunday Oct 15.
He was charged under Section 353 of the Penal Code that carries a maximum jail term of up to two years, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
On the second charge, Ganesan allegedly uttered humiliating words and made obscene gesture against the same policeman at the same place, date and time.
He was charged under Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955 that carries a maximum fine of up to RM100, upon conviction.
Magistrate Fadzlin Suraya Mohd Suah allowed Ganesan a RM2,500 bail in one surety for each charge and fixed Nov 14 for mention.
Separately, a construction worker was jailed 18 months by the magistrate’s court here after he pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing eight steel lamp posts belonging to the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) last week.
Magistrate Fadzlinimposed the sentence on Shawalludin Johari, 46, and ordered him to serve the prison sentence from today.
The father of two was charged with intentionally stealing eight steel lamp posts worth RM3,000 belonging to MBPJ at the MBPJ City store compound in Sungai Way, here at 6.15pm on Oct 11.
The charge was made under Section 379 of the Penal Code which provides for a jail sentence of up to seven years or fine, or both.
Earlier, deputy public prosecutor Fazeedah Faik urged the court to impose an appropriate deterrent as the accused had a previous criminal record.
