Ipoh private party attendees nabbed for violating CMCO

IPOH, 30 May 2020:

Police nabbed 30 individuals for violating the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) in two separate raids here early today.

District police chief ACP A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said in the first raid, 18 people – including the organiser and four women, aged between 17 and 26 – were arrested at a private party in Ops Covid and Ops Noda conducted by a team from the Anti-Vice, Gambling and Secret Societies Division (D7) of the Ipoh police headquarters.

During the 2am raid at an apartment in Jalan Meru Impian here, police heard loud music blaring from the premises and forced the door open after the occupants refused to let them in, he said in a statement.

He said some of them had been arrested previously for violating the Movement Control Order (MCO), including the 24-year-old organiser who also had a previous record under Section 376 of the Penal Code.

A Sonic Gear speaker, two small speakers and an Iphone 7 plus were seized. All 18 suspects are being remanded for three days starting today to facilitate investigations under Section 269 of the Penal Code and also Regulation 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Regulations 2020, he said.

In another raid, 12 men – aged between 22 and 50 – were held while drinking at a lounge at Jalan Veerasamy here at 1.30am.

He said all of them were arrested for violating the CMCO directive in the Ops Covid conducted by a police team from the Serious Crimes Investigation Division (D9).

In LABUAN, police have found a number of people who are undergoing the 14-day quarantine at gazetted hotels here are violating regulations by going out of their quarantine rooms.

Labuan police chief Supt Muhammad Farid Ahmad said these individuals are technical and operation staff in the oil and gas sectors who have been signed off from their respective duties, but they are required to undergo quarantine in the gazetted hotels before they are allowed to return to their hometowns in Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah and Sarawak.

“Some were found to have violated the quarantine rulings by going out from their rooms to smoke, buy cigarettes and meeting non-quarantine friends at the hotel lobby.

“(After checking the hotels) we have recorded their particulars and should they repeat the offence, we will hand over them to the Health Department to be slapped with compounds.”

Meanwhile, Labuan Health Department has issued at least seven compounds to the patients under its supervision and observation for violating quarantine rulings today.

Labuan Health Department director Dr Ismuni Bohari said at least 15 quarantine-gazetted hotels were checked last night in downtown, and 41 occupants undergoing quarantine were found violating the rulings.

“These patients who are undergoing quarantine in gazetted hotels were not in their rooms upon inspection by our teams at around 8pm to 10pm as they had gone out of their rooms without permission and pose health risk to others.”

He said the remaining 34 of the 41 violators were given a final warning with their particulars recorded.

The violation was under Section 22 (b) Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988 [Act 342] for contravention of Annex 14 (Order For Supervision And Observation notice) as issued to them.

In the CMCO standard operating procedure compliance operation last night, Dr Ismuni said seven food premises were issued with warning for violating the social distancing guideline.
