ALOR SETAR, 9 Sept 2018:
Residents in Kota Kuala Muda near Sungai Petani have been asked to be prepared for high tides which may hit the area twice between today and Thursday, and between Sept 23 and 28.
Civil Defence Forces (APM) Disaster Management and Operation Division head Captain Saifuddin Abdullah said in a statement the Kota Kuala Muda district in the state was among the areas expected to be effected by the high tide phenomenon – other than Selangor, Perak and Penang.
He said all APM members in Kuala Muda had also been instructed to be prepared to help the villagers in facing possible floods.
“The APM will also provide evacuation logistics such as lorries and tents and also to monitor the tide situation in Kuala Muda, especially at noon and midnight.”
Meanwhile in Johor, all who had to evacuate due to the flash floods in Kampung Sungai Suloh and Sungai Ayam in Batu Pahat on Friday should be able to return to their homes by this evening.
A Johor Civil Defence Force spokesman said this was possible because the weather had improved and fllood waters had subsided.
However, he said their homes needed to be cleaned first before they could move back in.
A total of 106 victims from 43 families had to be evacuated to SK Sungai Suloh, Batu Pahat.
