Headmistress charged with stealing students’ money

KUALA TERENGGANU, 4 Jan 2018:

A primary school head was charged in the Sessions court here today to a charge of dishonest misappropriation of zakat (tithe) contribution meant for students.

Zabidah  Sulaiman, 57, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Mohammad Haldar Abdul Aziz.

She was charged with using the RM5,000 fund – contributed by Syarikat Ladang Rakyat Terengganu Sdn Bhd for distribution to 100 students of Sekolah Kebangsaan Cheneh Baru 2, Kemaman, at the meeting of room of the company on 13 July 2015.

Zabidah, represented by lawyer Che Amir Che Musa, was alleged to have committed the offence when she was the headmistress of the school. She is now the headmistress of Sekolah Kebangsaan Pasir Gajah.

The offence, under Section 403 of the Penal Code, provides an imprisonment for up to five years and with whipping, and is also liable to fine, if found guilty.

Mohammad Haldar allowed her bail of RM10,000 in one surety and set Feb 11 for mention.
