Grandma says drowned autistic boy knew how to swim

SERDANG, 16 Nov 2019:

An autistic boy, who was found drowned in Sungai Merab, Kajang today, knew how to swim. The victim’s grandmother Manisah Lokman, 65, said her grandson Noor Adam Faiq Noor Azam, 11, had always loved the water and had learned how to swim before.

“All I know is that he had never been to the river, but his father used to take him to see a goat pen nearby, that’s why I was shocked when informed that my grandson was feared to have drowned in the river yesterday,” she said when approached at the Serdang Hospital here.

Manisah said Noor Adam Faiq was a cheerful boy and close to all family members.

Meanwhile, the victim’s father, Noor Azam Johari, who is also Perak Civil Defence Force director, declined to be interviewed.

The body of Noor Adam Faiq who reportedly slipped and fell into Sungai Merab here yesterday was found at about 10.15am, about 3km from where he fell.

Zone Five Selangor Fire and Rescue Department chief Nik Mohd Fadhil Salleh said the search and rescue operation resumed at 8am today with 103 firemen, policemen and Malaysian Civil Defence Force personnel.

Noor Adam Faiq’s family members realised he had gone missing at about noon when his shoes and pants were found on the river bank.
